Terms of service

Important: These Terms and Conditions apply to online orders placed with Block Butchery for the purchase and delivery of meat and related chilled or frozen products.

This is a template and should be reviewed for your specific business details, policies, and legal requirements.

1. About us

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern the sale of goods by Block Butchery ("we", "us", "our") to you ("you", "your") through our website, social channels, or any other online ordering method we offer.

If you need to contact us about an order, please use the contact details provided on our website or your order confirmation.

2. Agreement to these Terms

By placing an online order, you confirm that you:

  • have read and accepted these Terms
  • are legally capable of entering into a binding contract
  • are at least 18 years old (or are placing the order under the supervision of an adult)

3. Products

  • Product images and descriptions are for illustration and guidance. Meat is a natural product, so colour, size, fat content, marbling, and exact weight can vary.
  • Where products are sold by weight, the final price may vary based on the actual packed weight.
  • Some products may contain bones. Please take care when consuming and preparing.

4. Ordering process

  • An order is an offer to buy goods from us.
  • We will confirm receipt of your order (for example, by email or message). This does not mean your order has been accepted.
  • The contract is formed when we accept your order and take payment, or when we dispatch the goods, whichever occurs first.
  • We may decline or cancel an order if:
    • an item is out of stock
    • we cannot verify delivery details
    • there is a pricing error
    • we suspect fraud or unauthorised activity

5. Prices and payment

  • Prices are shown in GBP unless stated otherwise.
  • Delivery charges (if any) are shown at checkout.
  • We may change prices at any time, but the price you pay is the price confirmed at the time you place your order (unless there is a clear error).
  • Payment must be made in full before dispatch.

6. Delivery areas and delivery times

  • We only deliver to the areas shown on our website or confirmed during checkout.
  • Delivery dates and time windows are estimates. We aim to deliver within the stated timeframe, but time is not of the essence.
  • If we cannot meet the agreed delivery date, we will contact you to arrange an alternative or offer a refund for the undelivered items.

7. Chilled and frozen delivery requirements (perishable goods)

Because meat is perishable, you agree that:

  • Someone must be available to receive the delivery at the delivery address.
  • You will ensure the goods are promptly refrigerated or frozen as appropriate after delivery.
  • You will provide a delivery location that is safe and accessible.

If a delivery is attempted and:

  • no one is available to receive it, or
  • the courier cannot access the property, or
  • the address details are incorrect,

we may not be able to re-deliver and we may have to dispose of the goods for food safety reasons. In these circumstances, you may not be entitled to a refund.

8. Delivery method and packaging

  • We may use insulated packaging and chilled or frozen packs to help maintain temperature in transit.
  • Packaging performance depends on external conditions and the time in transit. We strongly recommend you unpack and chill/freeze immediately upon receipt.

9. Risk and ownership

  • Risk of loss or damage passes to you when the goods are delivered to the address you provide.
  • Ownership of the goods passes to you once we have received full payment.

10. Missed deliveries and safe place instructions

If you provide instructions to leave goods in a "safe place" or with a neighbour, you accept responsibility for:

  • the security of the goods
  • maintaining appropriate temperature control after delivery
  • any deterioration or spoilage

11. Inspection on delivery

Please inspect your order as soon as possible after delivery.

  • If something is missing, incorrect, damaged, or you believe the goods are not in acceptable condition, contact us as soon as possible and within 24 hours of delivery.
  • Please keep the goods and packaging (including any labels) so we can investigate.

12. Cancellations and changes

12.1 Order changes

If you need to change your order, contact us as soon as possible. We will try to help, but we cannot guarantee changes can be made once preparation has started.

12.2 Cancellations

Because our goods are perishable and often prepared to order:

  • you may cancel without charge before the order is prepared or dispatched
  • once the order has been prepared or dispatched, cancellation may not be possible

13. Returns and refunds

13.1 Perishable goods

Under UK consumer law, the right to cancel within 14 days does not apply to goods that are liable to deteriorate or expire rapidly, including perishable food items.

13.2 Faulty or misdescribed goods

Nothing in these Terms affects your legal rights. If goods are faulty, unsafe, not as described, or not of satisfactory quality, you may be entitled to a replacement or refund.

If a refund is agreed:

  • it will be made to the original payment method
  • we may request photos and order details to support our investigation

14. Food safety, storage, and handling

You are responsible for proper storage and handling once the goods are delivered.

  • Follow any storage instructions on packaging.
  • Keep raw meat separate from ready-to-eat foods.
  • Cook products thoroughly where appropriate.

We are not responsible for issues caused by improper storage, handling, or cooking after delivery.

15. Allergens

Some products may contain allergens or be prepared in environments where allergens are present.

  • If you have allergies or dietary requirements, contact us before ordering.

16. Promotions and discount codes

  • Discount codes are subject to any terms stated at the time they are issued.
  • We may withdraw or refuse codes where we suspect misuse.

17. Liability

  • We do not exclude or limit liability where it would be unlawful to do so.
  • We are not liable for losses that are not reasonably foreseeable.
  • Subject to your legal rights, we are not liable for losses arising from delivery delays outside our control or from failure to follow storage and handling guidance.

18. Events outside our control

We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, including severe weather, transport disruption, courier delays, strikes, or power outages.

19. Privacy

We will use your personal information in line with our Privacy Policy.

20. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales (unless mandatory local consumer rights apply).

21. Updates to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The version that applies to you is the one in place at the time you place your order.
